Purpose Statement: The Senior Space Component Engineer will provide expertise in High Reliability, Military and Space EEE Component Engineering activities. This individual will plan, define and implement component engineering requirements and processes within Plexus and on customer programs to ensure design integrity and hardware robustness.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Develop processes and procedures required to follow an EEE (Electrical, Electronic, Electro-Mechanical) component through selection, specification generation, procurement, part screening/qualification and data review/inspections.  Train others and lead the execution of EEE processes and procedures within Plexus.
  • Determine EEE parts testing and screening requirements for components, from customer provided Statements of Work (SOW’s), specifications, standards and/or applicable industry standards.
  • Provide direction to the organization on the adherence to the identified requirements.
    Generate plans, procedures, and EEE part procurement and screening documents (SCD’s, SID’s, and AID’s).
  • Review screening and test data from manufacturers and test laboratories for compliance to specifications, purchase order requirements, and program contracts.
  • Evaluate defective components and failure analysis reports.  Support component level failure analyses and supplier corrective action activities.
  • Ensure proper issue disposition and resolution to non-conformances.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Support hierarchical BOM generation in Agile (Plexus global PLM tool) and proper part coding defining part process requirements.
  • Select/recommend components according to program and industry requirements (EEE-INST-002, etc.).
  • Interface with suppliers to acquire component data and information.  Maintain an in-depth understanding of manufacturer’s technologies and process capabilities for various part types.
  • Support project design reviews internally and with customers.
  • Interface with customer engineers throughout life-cycle of projects.
  • Perform and review key Reliability Analyses: Prediction, Derating, FMECA, etc.
  • Define and execute up-screening processes to determine suitability of commercial electronics for the space mission environment.
  • Develop 3rd party test facility relationships for performing testing/screening.
  • Develop Plexus processes for utilizing 3rd parties and processes for execution of testing.
  • Provide input to program costing activities.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Science or related field is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • 10  years of EEE component engineering related experience is required;

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.

  • Possess a detailed understanding of Plexus TG development guidelines, budgeting, P&L, and management decision-making processes
  • Possess strong knowledge in all appropriate technical disciplines as well as a good knowledge of test development and manufacturing
