Space Environments Engineer

Company Details

Building humanity’s multiplanetary future.

Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

The Avionics team is responsible for all aspects of the electrical design on the rocket, from electronics, interconnects, associated mechanical design, testing and initial production of the first 3D printed rocket! This team’s scope includes the flight computers, power systems, RF systems, PCB design, autonomous flight safety systems, and telemetry. This team works on complex electrical systems that require modularity and flexibility, and are critical to the successful launch of Terran 1, Terran R, and beyond!

What you’ll do:

The Avionics Test Engineer will be responsible for supporting functional test of flight hardware for Relativity’s Terran 1 and Terran R rockets. They will work with hardware design engineers to derive test requirements, design hardware test equipment (including PCBAs and test racks) to exercise avionics hardware and will support the execution of acceptance and qualification test campaigns.

What you need to know:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree (BS/MS/PhD) in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience with electronics hardware test or electronics hardware design
  • Experience working with electronics test equipment such as power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and electronic loads
  • Experience with test requirements capture and test plan definition
  • Experience with basic wire harness design
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with test rack design
  • Familiarity with a data acquisition and control system platform such as LabView, Beckhoff, or similar
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols such as Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI, etc.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience developing basics scripts in a language such as Python or similar
  • Experience with a schematic capture & PCB design tool such as Altium Designer
  • Experience with high voltage power electronics and batteries
  • Experience with high-speed digital systems
  • Experience with mixed signal electronics design and test
  • Experience with functional test of mission-critical electronics
  • Familiar with a tool such as Visio for capturing block diagrams
