We are looking for Flight Dynamics Operations Engineers to work at ESOC’s premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany.

Tasks and Activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Trajectory Optimization for lunar, liberation point and interplanetary transfers and the science phases.
  • Navigation and Guidance including Optical Navigation for Mission Analysis.
  • Low Thrust Transfer Design.
  • Local and Global Optimization Applications.
  • Launcher ascent or lander descent optimization.
  • Concurrent Design Studies for space missions.
  • Flight Dynamics Infrastructure Software and Mission Analysis Tools.
  • Development, environmental models, analytical, semi-analytical and numerical integration techniques, local and global optimisation techniques and algorithms, covariance and Monte-Carlo analysis in C++, Python, modern software development tools like Git, CI/CD, CMake, docker and parallel computation techniques as OpenMP, MPI and CUDA.
  • Technical support to project, scientists and industry, participation in reviews.

Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Development of solutions to technical (mathematical and dynamical) problems in cooperation with customers and other experts.
  • Definition, implementation, validation and operation of software which applies the above solutions (e.g. using Unix and/or Linux scripting languages, Fortran 77 and/or 95, C++, Python).
  • Operational responsibility.
  • Coordination and interaction with other service providers in operations and other fields.
  • Familiarity with the ESOC environment.
  • Experience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks.
  • Experience dealing with external interfaces.
  • Experience with Oracle/Solaris and/or Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration.
  • Able to multi-task efficiently while working on multiple activities and multiple subsystems and, if applicable, multiple missions simultaneously.
  • Able to provide service on-call.
  • Comfortable travelling at least once within continental Europe per year.
