We are looking for a Space Projects Manager to work in Darmstadt, Germany, with the possibility of partial remote work.

The Project Manager will work on assigned development projects in the space domain based on RHEA Group, or client specific, goals and needs. The Project Manager will use a combination of management skills and specific financial and administrative knowledge, to coordinate the assigned project teams with the goal of project completion within specified time and budget constraints.

On an as-needed basis, the Project Manager will be required to support development of Ground Segment business and service lines through contribution of expertise, knowledge and experience in the development of proposals and at client meetings.

You will have the opportunity to work in a challenging environment with state-of-the-art technologies within the areas of Ground Segment, Model Based Engineering and Security domains, and may be required to occasionally travel to other RHEA offices or client sites throughout Europe or Canada.

Tasks and Activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Taking full or partial (as a support role to already assigned senior Project Managers) responsibility for the definition, documentation and satisfactory completion of the project.
  • Maintaining communication with the customers and its technical representatives, ensuring that reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure and customer expectations.
  • Collaborating with Technical Leads assigned to the projects.
  • Overseeing and supporting system design activities.
  • Identifying, assessing and managing risks to the success of the project.
  • Ensuring that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Communicating and coordinating project activities with the project team (RHEA staff, partners, subcontractors) and ensuring that priorities are developed and known.
  • Facilitating efficient communication across all levels of the project (RHEA staff, partners, subcontractors, and client) to ensure consistency in reaching the project’s goal, and to help in the recognition of any potential opportunities, risks or complications.
  • Managing the project resources and costs.
  • Managing the change control procedure and ensuring that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off.
  • Providing effective leadership to the project team and taking appropriate action when team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
  • Contributing background skills, knowledge and experience towards the project completion.
  • Building strong customer relationships and supporting Business Development in developing business with the client and in related fields.
  • Supporting the preparation of proposals.

Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject.
  • Proven successful project management experience (three years as minimum) in the space industry.
  • Understanding of current state-of-the-art of Information Technology and Space development activities.
  • Sufficient technical skills to allow you to actively participate in technical discussions with the project team and to enable a solution driven process.
  • Proven successful risk management experience.
  • Experience in working with government agencies, industrial, academic and Non-Profit organisations.
  • Rapid self-starting capabilities and experience in team working.
  • Excellent communication skills, presentation preparations skills and the ability to present in front of an audience.
  • Customer and result oriented.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to follow more than one subject at a time.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of space projects, preferably in any of the following areas:Ground Segment.
  • Model Based System Engineering.
  • Space Environment.
  • Cybersecurity concepts.
