About the role
As part of the Avionics team your role will be Test Lead, a hands-on people manager role reporting to the Avionics Manager alongside the Leads for the Integrated Electronics & Design team(s). Your team will have 8-10 members and you’ll need to guide and mentor them whilst working alongside them, as well as managing Avionics Testing projects with budget and time constraints. These are the two principle components of the role, but other elements will include communicating your technical strategy to other teams and working cross-functionally on projects with almost every other team. We’ve built up a very collaborative environment at Rocket Lab and there’s a lot of room to build more.

Our ideal candidate is someone from a strong DFM background who has led Design & Test efforts of highly customized Electronics, because that is what our Avionics team work on most of the time. We build flight computers, power electronic systems, high-voltage components, FPGAs, RF systems, and many other components used in the guidance, navigation, and control of Rocket Lab vehicles.

Essential skills
Bachelors Degree or higher in Electronic Engineering or similar
Minimum 10 years experience in the Design & Manufacturing of Electronic Systems
3-5 years experience as a People Lead, with a preferred focus on Design & Testing
Demonstrable methodological approaches to troubleshooting complex Electronic Systems
High proficiency in multiple areas of testing; analog; high-speed digital; power electronics

Desirable
Knowledge of Environmental Testing; Vibration, Shock, Thermal, TVAC
Experience Python, C/C++ and the SDLC in general
Project / Program Management skills
