Job Description

The Communications team is in charge of all satellite communications with ground stations, including low bitrate (TT&C) and high bitrate (payload data) links.

As a Satellite Communications Engineer, you will conceive, specify, design, implement, deliver, and maintain flight, ground, and simulation hardware and software for satellite communication systems. Projects usually span the complete program life cycle, from concept studies & system definition, development, launch, to on-orbit commissioning, on-orbit troubleshooting, service level indicators design & monitoring, and testing. You will be part of a systems engineering team who looks after the space and the ground segment working as a whole in order to meet mission objectives.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, architect, design, implement, test, and maintain the next generation of satellite communication systems including hardware and software.
  • Define and verify space communication system requirements and interfaces.
  • Maintain and improve the current communication system.
  • Perform analyses and simulations for space communication systems, including: link budget analysis, system capacity, reliability, and performance.
  • Establish satellite communication service level indicators to provide performance monitoring, reliability assurance, and feedback to systems design.
  • Define and verify space communication system requirements and interfaces.
  • Support system-level assembly, integration, verification, and test.
  • Perform third level support for operations.
  • Perform system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis and decomposition

Basic qualifications & skills (required):

  • BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • 3+ years of experience in digital communications, signal processing, and programming .
  • Experience in satellite communications (technology, state of the art, metrics).
  • Experience in Software-Defined Radio signal processing.
  • Experience with link budget calculations.
  • Experience in software development (python, C/C++)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in excellent English at all hierarchical levels.
  • Oriented to results.

  • Attitude: Empathy, flexibility, learning-oriented, accountability.

Preferred qualifications & skills (valuable):

  • 5+ years of experience in digital communications, signal processing, and programming
  • Experience in complex multidisciplinary systems will be valued.
  • Experience in RF hardware design and measurement.
  • Experience with antenna design, measurement, characterization or qualification.
  • Experience with communication protocols (link layer, network layer, transport layer).
  • Experience with linux systems (debian, systemd, docker)
  • Experience with continuous integration tools.
  • Experience in international telecommunication regulations.
