About the Team

The Optical Payload Manufacturing team is responsible for the calibration and assemblies of all the components of the Satellites cameras.

Location

Greater Rotterdam / Delft Area – At Satellogic we encourage virtual collaboration and teaming across our distributed global workforce and pride ourselves in our flexible and autonomous work culture. For roles that support teams with physical presence in our manufacturing plant we would require on-site presence.

About the position 

The optical engineer helps in the assembly and calibration of optical payloads for the satellite. This role will be responsible for leading and participating in opto-mechanical components preparation, testing and assembly as well as analyzing, developing and continuously improving the processes to build satellites.

This role needs availability to travel to Uruguay / Argentina for initial training of minimum three weeks and also to solve constraints and technical difficulties for one or two weeks with short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and be responsible for acceptance, assembly, alignment, and calibration of sensitive optical systems according to standard procedures
  • Suggest changes or improvements in optomechanical design to simplify manufacturing processes and improve manufacturing quality
  • Support the Global Supply Chain team to obtain the best product costing and quality and improve supply chain reliability
  • Development and improvement of processes and procedures
  • Work for extended periods in a cleanroom environment using the necessary protective equipment
  • Technological transfer assistance of engineering prototypes to production.
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Collaboration with the training program
  • Have a focus on safety

About you

  • You are passionate about spaceflight, lenses, telescopes, and complex imaging devices. You thrive in a dynamic environment which can have tight deadlines.

Experience

  • Bachelor/Master in Optical Physics or relevant Engineering degree
  • Minimum of 2 year experience as an engineer in any optical component or process in a cleanroom environment
  • Use of scripting languages for automating complex processes
  • Preferable experience in optical alignment and integration
  • Fluent in English; Dutch/Spanish would be a plus
  • Experience within Aerospace industry would be a plus
