SGS Oakhanger is a Satellite Ground Station providing secure communications and making up part of the Skynet 5 team within Serco. Within this team, we are currently recruiting for a Days System Operator.

In this role you will be responsible for undertaking a variety of tasks in support of the SGS Operations Support Team (a 24/7 shift based department supporting the Network Operating Centre).  Although predominantly a day’s position, you will be required on occasions to provide shift support,you will help ensure continued operations at the site including supporting with fault investigations and monitoring as well as assisting with scheduled maintenance tasks and dealing with the general day-today activities.

What you need to do the job:

Working across a range of systems and equipment, this is a role is ideally suited for a college leaver interested in Satellite Communications who can be adaptable and comfortable in working directly with customers.

It is highly desired that you hold a a formal Electronics qualification, such as and BTEC level 3 but we would consider the following:-

  • GCSE, or Equivalent, to Grade C in Maths, English and a Science based subjects.
  • Knowledge of a Physics or General Science subject, with a keen interest in technology and electronics.
