Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation

DEF799 Phase 2 is an unapproved Integrated Investment Program project which intends to deliver a sovereign Australian space-based capability that provides data from sensors to enable Geospatial-Intelligence (GEOINT) analysis and production by Defence. Investment in this project represents a new but critical capability for the production of GEOINT in support of the Australian Defence Force.

Experienced Space Systems Engineers are required for the successful capability development and delivery of a GEOINT Space Based Sensor System by DEF799-2. The Space System Engineer is a technical specialty with experience in all the technical disciplines encountered throughout the space systems development life cycle, including mission formulation, concept development, design, integration, test and mission operations.

Deliverables:

Key Deliverables for Level 3 – Advanced Practitioner:

Key Skills and Knowledge;

  • Minimum two years of experience with Space Satellite missions, programs and management processes.
  • Qualifications in professional engineering. Expertise in advanced multidisciplinary engineering, concept, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials and equipment sufficient to apply experimental theories, principles and concepts to project development.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Defence and the Intelligence Community, missions, relevant policies and processes

Major Responsibilities;

  • Provide systems engineering services to all aspects of the system development lifecycle, including major milestone reviews.
  • Analyse complex systems and apply engineering expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Escalate issues and seek advice from the Project Director and/or Project Manager or Senior Systems Engineer in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to external contract development including identification of approval and verification gates.
  • Participate in development of concept design, systems architecture and multi-system interfaces.
  • Particiapte in the review of externally developed test plans and procedures to ensure integration with requirements and verification processes.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders in documentation development.
  • Resolve issues and/or problems that arise during the course of capability development projects.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures, and working cohesively and flexibly with the braoder project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

  • Qualifications in professional engineering. Expertise in advanced multidisciplinary engineering, concept, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials and equipment sufficient to apply experimental theories, principles and concepts to project development.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Defence and the Intelligence Community, missions, relevant policies and processes.

Major Responsibilites;

  • Work with project managers, product owners, business analysts and senior customers on the deisgn of space systems engineering processes that support organisational outcomes and meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Provide systems engineering solutions that demonstrate awareness of dependencies and the need to collaborate and integrate with partner agencies and strategic industry partners.
  • Lead the analysis of comples systems and apply engineering expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Escalate issues and seek advice from the Project Director and/or Project Tranche Manager or Engineering Manager in a timely manner.
  • Participate in development of concept design, systems architecture and multi-system interfaces.
  • Contribute to external contract developmetn including identification of approval and verification gates.
  • Participate in the review of externally developed test plans and procedures to ensure integration with requirements and verification processes.
  • Enagage with relevant stakeholders in documentation development.
  • Resolve issues and or problems that arise during the course of capability devlopment projects.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures and working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

  • A NV1 clearance is required for this role.
  • An Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) is required for this role.
  • Commencement date is conditional and based on the successful candidate holding all valid security requirements to fulfil this role.
