The Actuation Systems team is responsible for the design of high-power actuation systems and components for Starship. As an Electrical Engineer on the Actuation Systems team, you will work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers to design electronics for 100kW scale batteries and actuators for the Starship vehicle. Design, build, test and fly high power electronics that operate during critical phases of the mission and actuate aerodynamic surfaces in the reentry system.


  • Serve as the engineer responsible for design, analysis and qualification of electronic components.
  • Create electrical schematics, specify components, analyze and test circuits, and work across teams to integrate components into the larger vehicle design.
  • Work with firmware and controls engineers to develop motor control systems, including for high bandwidth position control applications.
  • Lead design reviews internally, participate in reviews with suppliers and customers.
  • Drive technology improvements, work with engineers across the company to improve subsystem and vehicle architecture, innovate.


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, math, engineering or scientific discipline.
  • 1+ years of professional or internship/project experience with the design of electronic components.


  • Strong engineering fundamentals in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Understanding of motor control techniques, including Field Oriented Control.
  • Understanding of power electronics design and modeling concepts, including thermal management, magnetics design, high-frequency layout.
  • Design experience with Altium, Allegro, Eagle or similar electronic CAD package.
  • Experience with the embedded firmware development.
  • Experience working in project teams such as Formula SAE, Solar Challenge or Hyperloop.
  • Test experience, including familiarity with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, knowledge of sensors, DACs, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.


  • May occasionally be required to work extended hours and weekends.


  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
