The Position

  • We’re looking for a Spacecraft Data Processing System Engineer to strengthen our team onsite at EUMETSAT delivering world class services.
  • The successful candidate will be a member of a team that ensures day to day operations and maintenance, handling of anomalies, upgrades, and configuration changes for off-line, operational data processing systems. This full-time and permanent position is based at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt with expected starting date as of July 2022.


  • Data Processing Software System Development, Maintenance, and Operations Support
  • Attendance at technical meetings and formal reviews
  • Within a formal configuration-controlled development environment, investigate, document, fix, and resolve system anomalies.
  • Coordination/inputs to system release planning and preparation, including new/upgraded components
  • Technical baseline documentation creation and upkeep
  • Test and integration activities such as the creation and execution of test plans and procedures
  • Contribute to the definition and design of data processing ground segments and their components, as well as the interfaces and validation and verification methods.
  • Support for software maintenance and evolution procurement activities, including requirements specifications and management of the technical interface with external contractors.
  • Developing and implementing maintenance policies and procedures


  • Proven working experience in System Engineering of large, complex, real-time data processing systems based on UNIX or LINUX covering experience in requirements, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing, and system integration.
  • Excellent technical writing skills used in formal technical documentation (e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures)
  • Source code management systems (for example, Subversion and Git);
  • Analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing, and processing of software flaws
  • Programming and scripting languages (for example, C++, Java, and Python)
