The Position

  • We’re looking for a Spacecraft Instrument Processors Software Engineer to strengthen our team onsite at EUMETSAT delivering world class services. The main task will be to assist the team with maintenance and evolution of the EUMETSAT Copernicus operational instrument processing facilities (IPFs) software and associated documentation, as well as assistance with IPFs anomaly correction.
  • This full-time and permanent position is based at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt with expected starting date as of July 2022.


  • Familiarization with existing code and documentation, including a detailed analysis of the code, including its architecture and functions, and recommendations for improvements in terms of robustness, maintainability, and performance
  • Upkeep of critical software documentation to keep it aligned with the code;
  • Software assistance, such as
  • Rectification of inconsistencies;
  • SW evolutions implementation;
  • Improved SW performance
  • In the EUMETSAT operational ground segments, SW supply, integration, and validation;
  • Test data sets (TDS) generation in preparation for operational deployment or reprocessing campaigns


  • Expert level knowledge of C and C++ (mandatory)
  • A working grasp of a higher-level programming language (e.g. Fortran, Python)
  • Software development expertise in a configuration-controlled environment (highly desirable)
  • Experience with remote sensing data visualization utilizing specialized tools or computer languages (Python, IDL, etc.)
  • Experience in scientific analysis, particularly in marine and atmospheric remote sensing from space, including prototype algorithms and any relevant testing functions (mandatory)
  • Experience with operational satellite data processing systems, as well as processor maintenance in the context of operational missions (highly desirable)
