The Position

Sentinel-3 is one of the major Copernicus missions, jointly operated by ESA and EUMETSAT. The main objective of the Sentinel-3 mission is to measure sea surface topography, sea and land surface temperature, and ocean and land surface colour with high accuracy and reliability to support ocean forecasting systems, environmental monitoring and climate monitoring. The marine data products are produced by the EUMETSAT S-3 Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS). The S-3 PDGS is a complex system that has to fulfil strict availability and performance requirements.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to lead the activities of our S-3 PDGS maintenance service with our customer EUMETSAT. You will be the technical focal point for a team of expert engineers, as well as for the customer.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Scheduling team activities and liaising with stakeholders to assess dependencies and ensuring smooth completion of tasks
  • Prioritizing and distributing tasks to team members to ensure a balanced workload
  • Anticipating future requirements and tasks to facilitate resource planning
  • Coordination of handling change requests and maintenance tasks
  • Investigating & resolving Anomaly Reports (ARs) within given due dates
  • Performing and supporting deployments and installations of S-3 PDGS software components
  • Maintaining configuration control and technical documentation, conforming to EUMETSAT standards
  • Validating of software components and system integration
  • Taking an active role in planning and execution of software delivery test campaigns
  • Providing 24/7 on-call support on a rotational basis
  • This is a challenging role, combining solid hands-on experience with strong organizational and management skills.

Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science or other relevant discipline

Essential Skills

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical mindset and systematic problem solving approach
  • Experience in working with complex software systems, ideally for satellite ground segments
  • Confident working with Linux (including e.g. server administration, shell scripting)
  • Having a broad overview of IT infrastructure tools (networks, RAIDs, data bases, etc)
  • Motivated, well-organized, flexible and open
  • Proficiency in English

Desirable Skills

  • Having worked within the European space industry environment
  • Hands-on experience with software testing
