Navigation Systems Engineer (Senior or Principal)

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced Navigation Engineer to join the Telespazio UK, in the growing Navigation domain. The role will focus on developing systems, applications and services within position, navigation and timing (PNT).


The successful candidate will be expected to;

  • Work on projects in the field of positioning, navigation and timing (PNT)
  • Carry out research and study for PNT technologies, concepts, algorithms, solutions, applications and services
  • Perform design and development for resilient, high accuracy and high integrity PNT algorithms, solutions, applications, and services in a multi-disciplinary technical team
  • Contribute to broad engineering team activities, including documentation writing, trial and testing campaigns and review meetings.
  • Role will address both upstream and downstream activities
  • The candidate will be expected to work on assigned technical work autonomously

As a Senior Navigation System Engineer, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • Work with minimum guidance on assigned technical work with clear definition of work specification
  • Work autonomously to contribute at sub-system and work package level
  • Deliver technical report and proposal at section level

As a Principle Navigation System Engineer, the successful candidate is further expected to:

  • Act as a technical leader for work packages, and act as lead engineer when allocated to do so on selected projects
  • Work within a development team as a subject matter expert to pull-through new research into products
  • Lead the technical proposal concept design and write the proposal technical volume pulling contributions from other members of the team
  • Interface with internal and external clients / stakeholders closely to capture their requirements, derive them into technical specifications and solutions
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior members within the team and company
  • Contribute technically to the continued development of company’s strategy and business in PNT domain.


  • BSc or higher degree in engineering, science, maths or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following subjects:
    • Algorithms for advanced PNT techniques, including integrated / hybrid positioning techniques.
    • GNSS vulnerabilities and resilient PNT technologies
    • High accuracy and / or high integrity PNT algorithms
    • GNSS receivers technologies, and signal processing algorithms design and development
    • GNSS systems particularly ground segment
    • PNT augmentation systems, services and data products, eg. SBAS, IGS or commercial correction services
    • PNT system engineering
    • GNSS products or services design and development
  • ​​​​​​​Computer-based algorithms design and simulation (eg. in MATLAB environment)
  • Experience in successful projects delivery
  • Fluent technical document writing skills in terms of both technical and English presentation
  • Knowledge and experience in system engineering processes
  • Experience in bids writing, preferably including multi-company bids either as Prime or Subcontractors

​​​​​​​Additionally, as a Principle Navigation System Engineer, the candidate shall

  • Have successful hands-on track record of leading a technical project delivery
  • Have track record of leading and delivering a technical proposal with minimum guidance and support
  • Have experience of system architecture design and decomposition

Desirable Skills

  • Programming skills, preferably C / C++, and software development experience under Linux environment
  • Familiar with major institutions, eg. UK Space Agency / MoD / ESA, processes, bids and contracts
  • Experience of mentoring / leading technical team working on projects and / or developments
  • Knowledge in electronics and hardware
  • Knowledge in ground segment architecture and security


  • Excellent (clear, concise and structured) written and verbal communication in English (engineering topics)
  • Organised & structured way of working
  • Able to work with limited supervision and take the initiative to deliver high quality work on budget and on time
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Professional, logical and thorough
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to take the technical leadership when required
