Job description

We have the ambition to become the best company in Denmark to apply AI technology. We are not there yet, and we have a lot of challenges, which you need to be motivated by to solve together with the rest of the organization. Some of the challenges could be: How to develop AI/ML based solutions on data which is classified, and cannot be on the internet? Or how do we provide maritime situational awareness dominance with sensor fusion across multiple domains? How do we make sure our tool stack is both relevant and secure?

The European defence industry needs a massive digital transformation, and Terma wants to be in the front of this transformation. We also have the challenge of transitioning from being a hardware focused company to building our future on data and software. While that is a cultural/ methodological challenge, it also gives us a competitative advantage, because we understand how the data has been created on a deep hardware level. This have already enabled us to build some very unique solutions, but we want to push this even further!

The AI Department is transformening and expanding, and we are looking for a People Manager, who both have the capability of leadership’s day to day tasks, while also moving us forward in an ever evolving environment.Today there is 8 people in the team, located in both Copenhagen and Lystrup – the coming years we expect to expand rapidly to meet the requirements of our customers.

Your primary responsibilities

We are looking for a Director, who will take on a mix of people leadership tasks at a tactical level, combined with a operational focus/“playing coach”, which are executing tasks and different projects to ensure we always create as much value in the project as possible for our customers.

On the people leadership side you will be responsible for the ongoing wellbeing and development to ensure a thriving and high-performing team. You will, among other things, be responsible for coaching the team to become even better in their internal and external collaboration, and identify and eliminate obstacles to ensure progress on deliveries and a team that thrives. A large part of the work will involve stakeholder management towards Project Managers, Product Managers, other Line Managers, Business Development etc.

On the operational focus/ “playing coach” side, you will be responsible for ressource management, meaning that you are responsible for ensuring a good fit between capacity and demand. This includes ensuring that the right prioritizations between different projects are made and that it is in alignment with the rest of the Technology & Innovation organization.

You will become part of the extended management team in Technology & Innovation, and you are expected to work closely together with the Terma Accelerator team to commercialize new solutions and concepts.

Your responsibilities will among other things cover:

  • People Leadership of the team incl. competence development, knowledge sharing, 1-on-1, development dialogue, salary regulation, people review, allocation, staffing etc.
  • Resource management such as aligning capacity with demand in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Take ownership in strengthening and improving our work methods and processes
  • Continuous communication with the team around upcoming projects, changes in priorities, strategic initiatives etc.
  • Work with internal IT to ensure that the team have the right tool stack to be successful with.
  • Department Budget.

How to succeed in this position?

Need to have competencies are:

  • Excellent people Leadership skills and personality – you are a Leadership talent, who has got the right personality and capacity to motivate, engage, and develop both teams and individuals
  • Excellent stakeholder management and coordination skills – you are able to navigate both robust and trust-building in a international and complex landscape
  • Good communicator skills both verbally and in writing – you master perception and communication at Manager level and above
  • Experience with planning, making roadmaps, executing and budgeting – you have a high drive and possess natural leadership skills and personality to, e.g., drive deliveries effectively to completion.
  • An experienced AI and/or Software developer – you will be the “playing coach”, which means that you need both the professional software competences and experiences and the Leadership personality and motivation to thrive and become and success in this role
