Position Summary

VOX Space is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to perform system analysis, payload integration process support, and risk tracking, mitigation and verification for our programs utilizing the LauncherOne vehicle.  It is desired that the candidate has a strong systems engineering background with expertise in structures and working knowledge of other disciplines such as integration, test, propulsion, avionics, mission design, and/or launch operations. This Senior Systems Engineer works hand-in-hand with the Mission & Program Managers to assist in the technical backing for their on-time and on-budget program execution.  Requirements management, structural analysis, and CAD modeling expertise are expected in this position.  The role requires follow-through and initiative to ensure VOX Space meets their obligations.  This is a full-time position at VOX Spaces’ facility in Manhattan Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Develop visualization tools for providing metrics on requirements, implementation and test status as well as as-built vs as-designed configurations for both conceptual studies and executing missions using LauncherOne.
  • Review component, subsystem, and vehicle level design and evaluate against program baseline.
  • Creating and maintaining models in NX.
  • Analysis and verification of preliminary design with hand calculations and FEA using tools such as Femap.
  • Support mission management team with technical analysis needed to deliver launch services including model identification and “sanity checking”.    Either perform or manage the completion of various technical products such as Coupled Loads Analysis, Environments, Satellite Separation, RF/Compatibility, etc.
  • Support development of test and integration plans and evaluate against industry standards.
  • Manage risks for mission execution including identification of top down technical risks, evaluate risks and mitigation strategies, and provide feedback to engineering and recommendations on acceptance.
  • Document processes, analysis, and reports in sufficient manner to include as part of mission milestones.
  • Support (or author) interface control documents and supporting requirements verification matrices throughout mission execution.
  • Manage customer requirements using requirements tools such as JAMA or DOORS and ensure all customer requirements are being satisfied.
  • Support new business efforts as necessary by providing first order technical analyses and proposal support.

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated performance working with complex systems such as aerospace or aviation systems.
  • Demonstrated success in technically focused projects involving hardware design, build or test.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of major rocket subsystems including structures, avionics, propulsion, ground support equipment, GN&C, software, and payload accommodations.
  • Ability to solve problems from first principles.
  • Computer programming skills such as Matlab, Python, or PERL or demonstrated ability to automate complex processes.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)

  • Masters of Science degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline.
  • Experience designing, integrating, or testing launch vehicles with associated payload compatibility analyses
  • Experience with Air Force or other government space programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development, analysis or verification of large, complex systems.
  • Familiarity with common aerospace industry standards such as RCC-319, MIL-STD-810, SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-461, NASA-STD-5001, NASA-STD-5012, AIAA-S-080-1988, and or AIAA-S-081-2000.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex information for technical and non-technical audiences.
