Position Summary 

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a SOFI/TPS Specialist.  This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.  As the SOFI/TPS Specialist you will work to develop, implement and improve our SOFI/TPS application processes.  You should also have an understanding of industry standards and practices for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Work with the production manager and engineering to develop and improve the SOFI application process, facilities and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain SOFI training requirements and administer training to technicians assigned to the SOFI team.
  • Write technical documentation associated with SOFI processes and training.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of SOFI booth and equipment.
  • Monitor output and assess root cause for issues associated with output and quality not meeting expectation.
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
  • Perform other duties assigned

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in aerospace, aviation or automotive manufacturing required.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the application of SOFI material.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with application of TPS materials.
  • Experience with electronic MES Systems for work orders and shop floor execution

Experience

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teaching skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime when needed to support business requirements.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted).
  • Valid CA driver’s required with clean driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement.
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team.
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.

  • Experience working with composite materials manufacturing.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint for reporting, data visualization and analysis, etc.
  • A proven history of flexibility, tenacity, and drive.
  • Experience with Siemens NX / TeamCenter and Oracle is a plus.
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
  • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’.
