Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve in a high impact role as a Vehicle Configuration Engineer on our Vehicle Engineering Team. In this position you will facilitate the successful execution of hardware integration and vehicle upgrades by developing and maintaining a detailed process used to create, plan, track, approve and report hardware changes to the LauncherOne vehicle baseline design using JIRA and TeamCenter. The Vehicle Configuration Engineer will develop a technical familiarity with every aspect of the LauncherOne system and segments, organizational hierarchy, program milestones and engineering practices to aid in the coordination to vehicle baseline changes across an interdisciplinary team. The Vehicle Configuration Engineer will be directly engaging with Sr. Management and the VO Chief Engineer to aid in the assessment of programmatic impact of configuration change requests, coordinating configuration changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders, and ensure compliance with the authorized engineering change process across the engineering organization, quality assurance, production, and supply chain teams.

Your Mission

  • Develop, plan, manage, streamline, and document vehicle hardware change process within the JIRA environment
  • Apply a collaborative approach to aid with the coordination of hardware changes across interdisciplinary teams
  • Coordinate hardware configuration baseline strike dates for each rocket
  • Continuously audit system to identify opportunities to streamline process
  • Develop performance metrics and provide snapshot at program meetings
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
  • Perform other duties assigned

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Computer Information Systems or Data Science.
  • 1+ year of experience using JIRA ( issue/task management, Project/ issue customization, workflow customization, etc).
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language at a level capable of communicating complex information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
  • Must be able to work varying hours/shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 15lbs (unassisted).
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
  • Ability and desire to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.
