We are looking for a Ground Data Systems Senior Engineer to join the team that automates the integration and deployment of critical control systems for spacecraft operations and administers cloud-based IT systems and tools. The Engineer will support the team in the end-to-end system validation and verification of spacecraft monitoring and control systems within the development and operational environments. The successful candidate will present a significant previous experience and success in similar roles within ground segment data systems. The right person is passionate about automation, scripting, and building infrastructure as code and ground data system plays a central role. The candidate shall present working experience with a system-of-systems environment, where monitoring and control systems (MCS) and simulation (SIM) tools build the end-to-end test chain. Willingness to “roll up their sleeves” while simultaneously planning for scale is critical to success with this role!

What you’ll be doing (job duties)

  • Ability to perform architectural design and implementation of MDS (Mission Data Systems)
  • Translating client’s business and technical requirements into specific systems, applications or process designs
  • Experience in leading project development and software engineering activities of MDS (Mission Data Systems)
  • Communicate and document designs, implementation plans, and business & data workflow models
  • Resolve technical issues and identify risks by building consensus among technical stakeholders
  • Support to Mission’s critical activities
  • Support MDS development lifecycle, in particular, integration, deployment and testing phases
  • Automating development and operations processes with DevOps pipelines is a core competence.
  • Responsible for identifying and defining strategic and productivity initiatives to improve the quality and velocity of the organization
  • Express a strong, coherent vision for the execution of automated test scripts and validation of product requirements
  • Architect the design, modification, development, and implementation of test automation frameworks
  • Responsible for improvements to quality of tests and test coverage
  • Design and development of end-to-end test scenarios at infrastructure and operational level on multiple systems.
  • Support the investigation of test failures
  • Troubleshooting of identified problems
  • Support the coherent system and mission specific configuration of the different systems
  • Design and document new test cases
  • Design and execution of tests automation scenarios
  • Provision and maintenance of test plans and test reports

What we look for in you (job requirements)

  • A University degree or foreign equivalent in systems, computer, communication or electrical engineering or related discipline is required
  • Eight (8) years of experience in at least two of the ground segment areas: automation, monitoring & control or simulators.
  • Proven expertise with two of the Ground Data System Infrastructure products (e.g. MICONYS, SIMULUS, SCOS-2000, MATIS, EGS-CC, EGOS MPS, SIMSAT, highfly, FreeFlyer, Pleniter, or similar)
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering and quality standards
  • Knowledge of at least one programming and scripting language (bash, shell, C/C++, Java)
  • Aspiration to take operational responsibility in multi-discipline teams and areas
  • Ability to work independently, openness and reliability
  • Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing
