Job Description
X-Bow is looking for a full-time Chemical Engineer/Chemist to participate in the technology development of additively manufactured solid propellant. This position will include ordnance, propellant chemistry, and general engineering in a laboratory/field environment. The nature of this work requires significant training to safely perform with and around, ordnance, energetic materials, and hazardous chemicals.

Responsibilities
This role requires developing effective and optimal methods of manufacturing propellant formulations for solid rocket motors using new materials, processes, and equipment.

− Ordnance
o Handling, weighing, packaging, tracking, and keeping inventory of ordnance as it is stored and transferred to and from our magazine

− Propellant Chemistry
o Recognize and implement prudent work practice regarding safety and hazards reduction regarding energetic chemistries
o Handling, measuring, packaging, tracking raw chemicals needed for operations
o Handling, measuring, mixing of propellant, simulant propellant, motor liners, and /epoxies

− Engineering
o Extensive varying problem solving required for day-to-day operations
o Utilize chemical knowledge to provide input to further mature additive manufacturing technology and other advanced manufacturing techniques
o Consult with mechanical, electrical, materials and process engineers to refine qualification, development, and testing processes
o Perform data analysis, statistical research, peer, and literature review to evaluate and present test data internally and externally

− Facility/Laboratory
o Team member responsibilities to maintain and improve laboratory and facility environment

 

Experience and Skill Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who combines strong communication, organization, and management skills with broad interests and experience in the aerospace industry. As a key member of a small, dynamic, and highly skilled team you will be expected to actively collaborate with others as well as work independently to successfully accomplish assignments and responsibilities. Creativity and methodical problem solving are both required.

  •  2-5 years of experience in related field
  •  Excellent communication and technical writing skills
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office and common engineering applications
  •  Successful demonstration of lab-based skills in University, Government, or Industrial settings accomplished in a team environment
  •  Experience in process, synthesis, handling of energetic materials is a plus

Education
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related Engineering/Science degree. Master’s Degree a plus.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
